Severe weather swept through Englewood late Monday night, causing significant damage to several homes, uprooting trees, and knocking out power to more than 700 customers.

Most of the damage was centered around North Beach Rd, near De Soto Ave, according to Englewood Area Fire Control District Chief Scott Lane. He tells Fox 4 one person suffered minor injuries in the storm.

One family was forced to move out of their house, because investigators found it to be structurally unsound after the storm. The house suffered roof and balcony damage, and it's windows were blown out. Several other homes, condos, and apartment complexes also have damage.

Florida Power and Light crews were working early Tuesday morning to fix downed power lines. Just after midnight, there were 760 customers without power.

Emergency crews called animal control officers to help with an Osprey that was injured in the storm.

Chief Lane told our crew on the scene, he expects clean-up to take most of the day Tuesday.
